Abstract: The presentation will be divided into three parts. The first provides an overview of the evolution of
the treaty-based, investor-state arbitration regime. The second reports findings on (i) the evolution of arbitral
lawmaking, directing empirical attention to the arbitral review of state measures, and (ii) state responses to
that lawmaking as treaty-makers. The third focuses on the EU’s response to the evolution of the regime, and
prospects for reform.

Call for Applications: International Workshops for Early Career Researchers, Fall 2017 and 2018
Thanks to a generous grant the World International Studies Committee (WISC) will be in a position to sponsor two fully-funded academic workshops on the theme “World Order and Peace. International Politics in the 21st Century in a Global Perspective”. The workshops will take place in the Global South. Younger scholars (or “Early Career Researchers” ECR) in the field of International Relations (IR) are invited to apply.
A “Call for Applications” has been issued. Complete applications including a paper proposal, CV, list of publications and references must be received at wisc@soz.uni-frankfurt.de by March 13th, 2017.

Europe Inside Out -- Summer School at KU Leuven
Europe Inside Out -- Summer School at KU Leuven
During this 2-weeks residential course you combine two majors: Doing Business with Europe(ans); Policies & Politics in the EU; Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Europe; and Social & Migration Issues. The course includes visits to Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges and Paris.
Several European capitals are easily accessible by train directly from Leuven, including Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Berlin and London.
Dates & Location
The 14-day course runs from 3-16 July, 2017. The summer course takes place at KU Leuven, Belgium. By train the town of Leuven is 13 minutes away from Brussels Airport.
Tuition fee
The participation fee depends on the time of registration and will include tuition, social and cultural events and reading materials. Students from partner institutions pay €500 if registered before February 1st.

Founded in 1425, KU Leuven is the oldest university in Belgium, and with more than 42,000 students, it’s also Belgium’s largest higher education institution. It is in 12th place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for Europe and number 40 in the world.
Credits
All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Students who attend all lectures will receive 4 ECTS. It is possible to earn extra credits when writing a paper on a topic dealt with in class.

The European Union Studies Association Asia Pacific (EUSA AP) is inviting papers for the annual conference and postgraduate student workshop. The conference is entitled:

The conference will be multi-disciplinary in focus and we are inviting papers from a wide range of academic disciplines to look at findings in relation to the roles of the EU and the Asia Pacific region in this global era.

The 4th Taiwan-Portugal Joint Business Council (Nov. 21, 2016)
Purpose:
In order to enhance the bilateral trading relations between Taiwan and Portugal, CIECA will be hosting the 4th Taiwan-Portugal Joint Business Council at 14:00 on November 21st 2016. The main themes of this meeting encompasses “Taiwan’s Economic and Trading Trends,” “Investments and Industry Opportunities in Portugal,” “Portuguese Wines,” “Portuguese Frozen Foods,” and “Educational Collaboration.”
Details:
I. Current Economic and Trading Overview of Portugal:
1. Macro-environment: After the economic downturn in 2008, Portugal’s economy has picked up since 2014. Currently the unemployment rate has lowered to less than 11%, and the Portuguese government has been rolling out various incentives for foreign investors in various industries such as biotech, electronics, ICT etc.
2. Advantages for investment:
(1) Labor: the minimum wage is 530 Euros, with at least 61% of the workforce capable of speaking at least 1 foreign language.
(2) EU Member: in comparison to Eastern European countries, Portugal enjoys a 30-year-history of cooperating with various EU members due to geographical and historical reasons, making its market relatively open to investments.
(3) Portuguese-speaking country: Due to historical reasons and membership in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), Portugal enjoys a special position in terms of being a strategic partner to enter such markets as Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, and Sao Tome e Principe.
(4) The World Bank has ranked Portugal as the 23rd easiest place to conduct business worldwide in 2016.
II. Dr. Paulo Nunes de Almeida, President of the Portuguese Entrepreneurs’ Association (AEP), will be leading a delegation whose members include the wine, frozen foods, and educational investment industries.

**Full-time Instructor Wanted:One tenure-track full-time German Instructor
The Department of European Languages and Cultures, College of Foreign Languages and Literature, National Chengchi University, invites applications for one tenure-track full-time faculty position.
Requirements: Ph.D. degree holder (Non-native speaker of German or native speaker of German) or assistant professor or above.
Period of employment:
The appointment is expected to begin on August 1, 2017.
Responsibilities:
1. Offering courses in German language, culture and literature at the undergraduate level.
2. Conducting research and providing services related to German language, culture and literature.
Qualifications:
1. Non-native or native speakers must have earned a doctorate in German language, literature and/or other fields related to German culture.
