It is with profound sadness that the European Union Centre in Taiwan (EUTW) mourns the passing of Mr. Giuseppe Izzo on February 17, 2026. Mr. Izzo was the former Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT), the Founder and Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (ICCT), and the Group Vice President of STMicroelectronics. Former Chairman Izzo was an extraordinary leader and a visionary in Taiwan-EU economic and trade relations. As a steadfast partner of the EUTW for many years, he dedicated his life to bridging the gap between Europe, Italy, and Taiwan. Beyond his significant influence in the semiconductor industry, his forward-looking leadership in sustainability, energy transition, and international talent development left an indelible mark on the bilateral dialogue between Europe and Taiwan. To the EUTW, Mr. Izzo was more than a highly respected collaborator; he was a passionate, witty, and wise dear friend. His deep affection for Taiwan and his charismatic personality will be fondly remembered and forever cherished. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Izzo’s family, as well as to our colleagues at the ECCT, STMicroelectronics, and the ICCT. His immense contributions leave a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire and guide the future of Taiwan-EU relations.

The application for the "European and European Union Studies Program" for the 2nd Semester of the 2025-2026 Academic Year (114th Academic Year) is now open. The Center will host an Information Session on the New Erasmus+ Program and Scholarships at 6:30 PM on 3rd December, 2025, in Room 102, 1F, College of Social Sciences, National Taiwan University. We have invited an alumnus of the Euroculture Master's Programme to share their experiences regarding applications, academic life in Europe, and living abroad. Among these, only 18 Jean Monnet Module projects were selected from across Asia, highlighting the highly competitive nature of the programme on a global scale. Taiwan successfully secured three Jean Monnet Module awards, standing out among leading institutions worldwide. The awarded projects were proposed by: Taiwan EU Centre at National Taiwan University, Center for General Education at Chung Yuan Christian University, and Department of Political Science at Tunghai University. Congratulations once again to all the recipient institutions and teaching faculty for this outstanding achievement!

The European Union Innovation Week, held biennially in Taiwan, is organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), bringing delegations to Taiwan for industrial dialogues with key stakeholders across government, academia, and industry. This year’s EU Innovation Week will be held from 21st to 23rd October 2025 at the Taipei International Convention Center. Among the highlighted events, the “Taiwan–EU Drone Technology and Export Forum” will take place on 22nd October in the afternoon, co-hosted by the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO), the European Union Centre in Taiwan, the Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R&D Center, TÜV Rheinland, and STMicroelectronics. This marks the first time that drone technology has been included in the EU Innovation Week agenda. A delegation of related European enterprises will also be visiting Taiwan for this occasion. Key representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) and the Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) will present EU policies and regulatory frameworks concerning drones. Notably, this will also be the first public forum participation in Taiwan by DG DEFIS.
