History
Since its establishment in May 2009, the European Union Center in Taiwan (EUTW) has been committed to promoting EU teaching and research in Taiwan and promoting academic exchanges and people-to-people exchanges between Taiwan and the EU. In particular, it hopes to combine the strengths of all walks of life in the country to cooperate. To achieve this goal, EUTW holds the Friends of Europe Dinner in Taipei and other cities in Taiwan every year, inviting people from all walks of life who have contacts with Europe or are interested in Europe to gather together, exchange, and share experiences. Establishing an association that combines Europe and Taiwan to jointly enhance and promote exchanges between Taiwan and Europe and connect with the international community has been the goal that everyone has been working hard for over the years. After several discussions, more than thirty domestic academics established the "Friends of Europe in Taiwan" Preparatory Committee on July 8, 2014, at the Zhongshantang Fortress Restaurant in Taipei. Dr. Chin-peng Chu, former chairman of the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, Executive Yuan and professor at Donghua University, served as the convener and began to build a community group uniquely focused on European affairs. After more than nine months of hard work and as many as four preparatory meetings, the founding meeting was held at 11:00 a.m. on April 18, 2014, at the Zhongshan Hall Fortress Restaurant in Taipei. In May 2015, Friends of Europe in Taiwan received the registration certificate of a national and district-level people's organization approved by the Ministry of the Interior (No. 1040011293) and thus completing the legal registration.
