Welcome to EU Culture Forum (May 23, 2014)

Taiwan European Culture Forum
I. Rational
The European Union Centre in Taiwan has organized EUTW Forum for many years. The forum has become the most important platform for the Political and Economic Studies of European Union in Taiwan. The relevant scholars and experts of the EU Studies exchange views and observations at this platform. It really helps to deepen the EU studies in Taiwan. However, if we review the past achievements of this forum, we might find that less issues and exchanges of scholars on the “European Language and Culture”.

The European or EU forum should not be limited to the social science, rather also cover the discipline, such as art, linguistics, anthropology. Even though there are, in relative sense, less scholars on European languages, who mostly focus on the literature, language, art and culture studies, it still an important element to enhance the EU and European Studies in Taiwan.

We have noted that most of international conference on these relative academic issues are discussed by English or by other specific languages. It has resulted that less connection or interaction between scholars from different parts of academic group. That’s why we emphasize the importance of EUTW forum which can bridge the gap between those scholars have the same academic interest and taste, on this platform, we can work together for the new opportunity and blueprint on EU studies in the future.

II. Goal
In the ongoing framework of EU Cultural Platform in Taiwan we have previously is “European Movies Fair”, we also want to try something new on deeper level and various fields, such as arts, architecture, music, performance, cultural heritage, sightseeing, publishing and education, of brainstorming within the EU studies group in Taiwan, it aims to enhance connection in academia and promote cooperation and social exchange with Official Cultural Offices from Europe.

For celebrating 5th anniversary of EUTW, the establishment of the European Culture Forum shows the successful and huge progress we had get through for these 5 years. Through the topic on the “Central European Films” and “Movies of Pedro Almodovar Caballero, an Spanish director”, as the appetizer of European Culture Forum, we are showing solidarity and coordinated skills of EU studies group in Taiwan
