Judging Artificial Intelligence (AI)!? Bureau français de Taipei is now recruiting members for an international virtual court (Germany, France, and Taiwan). This is an activity of Human Rights Week concerning AI, co-organised by Goethe-Institut Taipei and Bureau français de Taipei, and sponsored by Franco-German cultural institutes. Do you want to understand the challenges of AI to democracy?
Do you have the courage to speak in public?
Are you seeking unique experiences or challenges?
If that is the case, do not hesitate to submit your application. The trial will be held at the virtual court of Judges Academy between 6 PM and 9 PM on October 4, 2024.
This activity provides simultaneous interpretation. Participants could speak in Chinese, French, or German.
Certain characters have already been chosen:
- Presiding Judge: A faculty member Taiwan who specializes in law
- Witnesses: Two faculty members specializing in law, one from France and one from Germany
- Defendant: Chat GPT
Bureau français de Taipei is recruiting the following characters:
-Prosecutor: A prosecutor is accusing the defendant to defend the public interest.
-Defense Lawyers: One or two lawyers are defending the AI.
-Witnesses for the Prosecution: One or two witnesses are supporting the prosecution.
Member of the jury
- A person in charge of operating the Chat GPT
As a member of the court, you will have the opportunity to analyze various pieces of evidence, cross-examine two expert witnesses, and provide accurate judgments on different charges, playing a crucial role in the trial process.
You don’t need to have any experience in the legal field!
The selected individual will be specially invited to attend the 2025 French National Day Banquet hosted by the Bureau français de Taipei!

Bureau français de Taipei will announce the list of participants at the end of July. Following this, you will be invited to attend two workshops (each two hours long) held by the Bureau français de Taipei in September to prepare for the event in advance.
