Theme: EU Challenges in the Post-Pandemic Era and Amid Geopolitical Rivalries
In recent years, European countries have faced a multitude of complex challenges — from the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic economic recovery to global warming, refugee and migration issues, economic restructuring, Eurozone financial stability, democratic backsliding, populism, regulatory harmonization, and industrial transformation.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has further intensified concerns over geopolitical instability, highlighting the importance of Europe’s relations with countries outside the region. These developments pose significant tests not only for individual national governments but also for the unity and effectiveness of institutions like the EU and NATO.
Amid this context, Taiwan–EU relations have seen notable progress, underscoring the increasing relevance of European affairs to Taiwan’s future development. To advance domestic research on Europe and the EU, the EU Centre in Taiwan has partnered with universities across Taiwan to organize the National Graduate Student Conference on European Studies since 2011.
This year marks the 12th edition, hosted by the Graduate Institute of Political Science at National Sun Yat-sen University, and for the first time, undergraduate students are also invited to participate.
