Ways of Worlding: An Anthropological Approach (Philippe Descola)on 21 November 2023, welcome to join us!
▍Lecturer: Philippe Descola
▍Event Date: 11/21 (Tuesday) 16:00-18:00

Abstract:
Images serve, among other things, to stimulate and organize memory, convey information and express emotions. Beyond these universal functions, they also have the power to make present and transmit what we might call ontologies, that is, sets of qualities detected in beings and things. The four main ones – animism, naturalism, totemism, and analogism – are expressed in a wide variety of images from all five continents, and the lecture will propose an anthropological interpretation of them.
