CALL FOR PROPOSAL
2011 EU-Taiwan Student Workshop on EU
To enhance the interactions between EU and Taiwan students, and further acquaint Taiwan students with EU countries in all dimensions, European Union Centre in Taiwan (EUTW) is to hold a series of workshops at National Taiwan University to introduce the EU, including her geography, history, cultures, delicacies, life-styles, or such of EU member states.

NTU students are encouraged to organise a team to propose and present in the workshop. Each team has to be at least two students respectively from Taiwan and EU countries. The selected team will be awarded $9,000 NT dollars after the completion of the presentation.

2.Date & Venue:
Both are up to the presenters as long as the date is within this semester. NTU Global Lounge is recommended yet other venues within NTU campus are also welcome. EUTW will cover the expense though each team is suggested to confirm the availability of the venue before submitting the proposal.

ASIA EU International Conference on EU-Asian Relationship and Cooperation is the regional EU Centres’ workshop for post doctors, Ph. D. Students, and senior graduate students on the EU study. This year was organized by EUTW on 22 to 23 February, 2011 at the Barry Lam Hall, National Taiwan University. The 2012 conference is hosted by Pusan National University EU center on February 2nd-3rd, 2012 at Busan, South Korea.
The topic for the year 2012 will be “EU-Asian Relationship and Cooperation”. Any papers related to that topic are welcome. We would like to invite Taiwan post doctors, Ph. D. Students, and senior graduate students to join this important regional EU study workshop. The EUTW will provide direct round trip economic flight from Taiwan to Korea and 3 nights accommodation covered by Pusan EU Center.
The title of paper, abstract (300-500 words) and profile should be submitted to Miss. Chen via e-mail (ntueutw@ntu.edu.tw). The deadline for submission of abstracts is 30 November, 2011. Information on acceptance of paper proposals will be communicated in mid-December 2011. Full papers (6000-8000 words) should be submitted to the EUTW by 10 January 2012. EUTW reserves the right to whether or not paper is acceptable.

Prof. Piotr Ostaszewski, the Taiwan Fellowship visiting scholar this year, is the Head of the Department of Political Studies, Warsaw school of Economics. His research interests lie in United States’ Internal and External Affairs after World War II, US-Southeast Asia Relations, International Relations, Comparative Political Systems and Theory of the State.

Conference Outline

This roundtable forum is organized by the regional EU Centre Institutes and hosted by a Centre on a yearly-rotating basis to provide a platform for discussion of current and relevant issues at stake. On the 30th til 31 January 2012, the Yonsei-SERI EU Centre in Korea will host the roundtable forum to examine the pressing issue of climate change, the efforts being undertaken and the possibility for cooperation between Europe and Asia. In view of Europe and Asia’s different approaches in facing the problem on climate change, it is hoped that this forum will result in selecting the best course of action towards mutual cooperation and research to combat global climate change.

The EU Centre in Taiwan will assist 2 chosen local participants to take part in the 2012 EU Centres Institutes Regional Roundtable by providing economy class tickets from Taiwan to Korea and 3 nights’ stay at the Yonsei University residence hall. We eagerly welcome participants engaged in related studies to register with us. Priority will be given to participants who have previously published related papers or who are currently engaged in research in similar fields of study.

Interested parties may submit their resume and research paper to the European Union Centre in Taiwan at ntueutw@ntu.edu.tw before Wednesday, October 5th for preliminary selection. The selected entries will be announced and posted on the Centre’s website on Friday, 7th of October.

The European Union Centre in Taiwan (EUTW) would like to invite you all to be part of the 2011 Asian Workshop on the EU Study. This Asian Workshop with the theme of “The Future of European Integration and EU-Asia Relations” will be held on 22-23 February, 2011 at 2F, Larry Lam Hall, National Taiwan University. Attached please find the tentative agenda.
This regional workshop is an important intellectual gathering among the regional EU Centres. It is also the first time that Taiwan hosts an important regional EU studies workshop. With active participation from the EU Centres in Japan, South Korea and Singapore, we believe that it would facilitate and deepen the EU studies in Taiwan.
