Dear Friends and Colleagues in the European Union Research Community,

We are pleased to introduce you to the European Union Centre in Taiwan (EUTW). Taiwan is the fourth EU Centres in Asia that EU has established. Other Centres established in Asia are in Japan, Korea, and Singapore. EU centres in other regions include those in Canada and the USA in North America, and those in Australia and New Zealand in the Pacific.

The EUTW has inherited the EU's spirit of multilateral cooperation. It consists of a consortium of seven universities in total with National Taiwan University (NTU) as the leading university. Members of the consortium include National Chengchi University (NCCU), Catholic Fu-Jen University (FJU), National Dong Hua University (NDHU), National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Tamkang University, and National Sun Yat Sen University (NSYSU). The purpose of this unique arrangement is to further promote EU studies and raise awareness on EU policies in Taiwan on a national level and to deepen cooperation with EU through academic and cultural exchange.

Many of us are familiar with famous sights in Europe, European goods, or have heard about the Euro. However, lot of us are unfamiliar with and unaware of the EU policies and their implications. We are here to share our knowledge in the EU studies and our understanding of the EU policies.

We hope that through the various activities you will be able to learn more about EU and understand its policies better.We hope that EUTW will become a bridge between Taiwan and the European Union. Furthermore, we envision the EUTW becoming the main center for exchange of ideas and the sharing of EU information in the global Chinese community.
